The IcanUp Personal Account Is Almost Ready: A Major Release Is Coming

IcanUp is getting a complete personal account experience with profiles, saved reading progress, Continue Reading, reading history, bookmarks, and a new notification and messaging center. The final major layer is now being completed before release.

One of the biggest ICanUp releases is getting very close.

Until now, the site mostly remembered content. After the upcoming release, it will also remember more of what matters to each reader: where you stopped, what you completed, what you saved for later, and which messages need your attention.

The personal account has been built across more than one release. Its foundation is ready, and the current work is completing the final major layer around notifications and user interaction.

Reading progress will follow you

Unfinished posts keep their progress and have a dedicated place in the personal account.

Reading History

Completed posts form a history so useful material can be found again without starting from scratch.

Guest Progress Merge

Reading progress created before authentication can be connected to the user account after sign-in.

Accurate Completion

Reading progress is being refined so 100% represents the actual end of the post rather than the bottom of the entire page.

Bookmarks are becoming available

Useful material is not always needed immediately.

After the release, authenticated readers will be able to bookmark a post, remove it later, and access saved material from one dedicated place.

For a growing ICanUp library of posts, series, and practical material, this is one of those small capabilities that can significantly improve everyday use.

The personal account is more than reading history

Personal Profile

Name, avatar, and additional user information are managed through a dedicated profile journey.

Secure Access

Registration, sign-in, sign-out, password recovery, and email verification are part of one user flow.

Email Management

Email changes follow a controlled verification process instead of silently replacing account data.

One Personal Space

Reading, bookmarks, profile settings, notifications, and future user capabilities come together in one account area.

The final major layer is notifications

The current release is focused heavily on notifications.

The goal is not to build another badge next to a bell. Notifications need to appear at the right moment, preserve their state, and avoid asking users to deal with the same information repeatedly.

Public users are getting their own notification and messaging experience directly inside the personal account.

What the notification system is adding

Notification Center

Important system notifications will be available directly inside the personal account.

Realtime Updates

Where appropriate, new information can appear without requiring a manual page refresh.

User Preferences

The system is being prepared for user-controlled notification channels and preferences.

Unified Email Experience

Website notifications and transactional emails are moving toward one consistent ICanUp visual system.

Some notifications require more than being displayed

Not every notification means the same thing.

Some only need to be seen. Others need to be opened, explicitly acknowledged, or followed by an action.

The system therefore keeps display, reading, acknowledgement, dismissal, and action states separate instead of treating every visible notification as already handled.

Account linking is part of the work too

Another piece of the release is safer handling of accounts when the same person can use a standard sign-in and Google.

Rather than silently merging identities, ICanUp is being designed to ask for explicit confirmation when account linking is appropriate.

It is a small user-interface detail, but an important part of a trustworthy personal account.

The final integration stage is underway

The main capabilities are already in place. The current work is the final large integration cycle: notification behavior, mobile UX, reading, bookmarks, branded email, realtime delivery, and making sure all of these pieces work well together.

I do not want to open the personal account simply because individual screens are finished. It should feel coherent and predictable in real use.
